Goals

Based on the aforementioned vision and promotion framework, this plan corresponds to the goal of "national key development industries" and "strengthening students' English proficiency, promoting full English teaching, and overall improving the international competitiveness of higher education", and promotes the main performance ofuntil2025The goals are broken down as follows.

  • Overall ( Unity ):

Since the sixth president of the school in 2012 , "Cultivating Donghua people with an international mind" has been one of the school's development goals, and the seventh president in 2016 has included "strengthening international mobility" as a major project, which shows that the Faculty of Science and Technology has always been [ The goal of cultivating students with international communication and teamwork skills is very consistent with the school's internationalization direction. At the same time, the key development directions of the Institute of Technology at this stage are semiconductor nanomaterials, cutting-edge green energy technology, quantum technology, AI , big data, nano-biomedicine, smart agriculture , and [semiconductor], [high-tech ], [Information Engineering ( including Information Security ) ], and [Biology and Medicine] are closely related to each other. Therefore, in the early stage, we will cooperate with the school's English training institute to improve students' English ability, and at the same time, we will reward teachers in these fields to open EMI courses , Cooperate with the school's quality control mechanism, and cultivate students who can best exert their abilities in key areas.

  • Organization _ _

  1. School-level unit: The English Empowerment Academy of National Dong Hwa University is a first-level dedicated unit in the school, which has two administrative groups ( curriculum group and empowerment group ) and two teaching centers ( language center and Chinese language center ) . The characteristics of cross-unit horizontal integration link the International Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office, Teaching Excellence Center and other school-level units to support the development of all English and bilingual teaching in each college.

  2. School-level unit: EMI promotion group of the Institute of Technology ( see Figure 9)

Our school established the [Technology Institute EMI Promotion Group] to plan and promote a high-quality bilingual teaching environment. At the academic level, the combination of existing key development directions is strengthened: [Mathematics + Physics + Chemistry] provides high-quality basic EMI courses; [Physics + Materials] focuses on the basic research of [Semiconductor Materials]; [Skills + Mathematics] strengthens [Information] [Engineering and Information Security] courses; [Optoelectronics + Motors] is committed to the development of [cutting-edge green energy technology]; [Economics + Motors] cooperates closely with the industry in the direction of [Smart Agriculture]; [Physics + Life Sciences] concentrates on [Nano The bright future of biomedicine; [labor, physics, motors, materials], etc. will continue to make continuous contributions to high-tech aspects such as [quantum technology, AI , big data]. Students will gain the most appropriate theoretical study and practical experience in these fields.

  • Teachers _ _

At the school-level administrative level, factors that may affect EMI teaching, such as the threshold for starting courses and the evaluation mechanism, will be discussed at the initial stage , and if necessary, adjustments will be made to apply to EMI teaching. And provide generous rewards for the first EMI course that meets the definition of the Ministry of Education. Each course selects 1-2 better students to increase teachers' willingness to offer EMI courses. The English Training Institute provides appropriate training courses for teachers, teaching assistants and students to improve their professional English skills. At the college level, it is estimated that 1~2 international EMI teaching experts will be hired to guide the teachers of the whole college to carry out EMI teaching. At the same time, to 16 seed teachers (average 1~2 per department ) will be selected and subsidized to receive EMI training abroad in 3 years. , and then lead the teachers in the school to develop EMI teaching and improve the teaching quality of the whole school. Non-seed teachers are also subsidized to participate in online EMI training courses. It is estimated that by 2024 at least 44 teachers will be subsidized to facilitate the establishment of EMI courses.

  • Courses _ _

  1. University Department: Give priority to subsidizing the implementation of the core courses of the colleges and departments, accelerate the improvement of the popularity of English teaching in the college, and open 28 more courses before 2024 , with an average of 8 to 10 EMI courses for sophomores and above per year. The principle is to make the proportion of EMI courses From about 10% at present to about 17% in 2024 .

  2. Research Institute: The EMI courses for master's degree in our school reached 23.7% , which is enough to provide more than 20% of EMI courses for master's students. Therefore, before 2024 , we will focus on increasing the proportion of EMI courses for first-year master's students, and encourage teachers to open more EMI courses according to the needs of students. course.

  • Students ( Students ):

  1. Common ( Commonalities ):

The Institute of Science and Technology will cooperate with the language center of the school to offer ESP courses that meet the needs of science and engineering . It is estimated that at least 150 freshmen (about 25% ) will be taught in 2021 ( 15 students per class, 10 classes in total), and an increase of at least 30 students per year ( 2 class) by 2024 , at least 240 first-year students (nearly 50% ) will be able to study ( 16 classes). The Institute of English Development will also provide scholarships to students who have reached B2 or above. The year-by-year goal is to set appropriate goals for this year's students based on the English ability of the current year. 1. Customized ( Customized ):

According to the current situation of freshman students taking EMI courses in our college, we have formulated the following goals, which will be adjusted accordingly year by year depending on the actual situation of each class of students:

2021 E1 = 9.8% , E2 = 3.0% , E3 = 0.5 % , E4 0% , E5 %

2022 E1 >= 15% , E2 >= 4% , E3 >= 1% , E4 >= 0% , E5 >= 0%

2023 E1 >= 20% , E2 >= 5% , E3 >= 1.5% , E4 >= 0% , E5 >= 0%
